Frequently asked questions

What is AI Clear?

AI Clear is the independent rating system for AI transparency. We score how well companies document, disclose, and manage their use of AI across five pillars and 48 criteria (Rubric v3.1). Every rating is published in a searchable public registry at aiclear.org.

How does the AI Clear rating work?

Every company is scored on a 100-point scale across five weighted pillars: AI Disclosure and Inventory (20%); Data and Model Governance (20%); Risk Management and Human Oversight (25%); Sector Decision Transparency (25%); and AI Security and Assurance (10%). Each criterion is scored on a five-tier scale — 0, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of its allocated points. Grades range from A+ (95-100) down to F (below 20).

Is the AI Clear registry free?

Yes. Every score is published at aiclear.org for free. No login, no paywall. Transparency about transparency is the entire point. Companies that want a deeper evaluation can pay for certification, where AI Clear verifies internal documentation against external evidence.

What regulations does AI Clear help with?

AI Clear's framework maps directly to Colorado SB 26-189 (signed May 2026, effective January 1, 2027 — covered ADMT, deployer disclosures, consumer rights), the EU AI Act (full enforcement August 2026), GDPR Article 22 (automated decision-making rights), and California TFAIA. The scoring criteria align with disclosure, documentation, and human-review requirements across these regulations, plus ISO/IEC 42001:2023, ISO/IEC 23894:2023, NIST AI RMF, and NIST AI 600-1.

How does AI Clear score companies?

Scores are based entirely on externally verifiable evidence: what a company publishes, what its policies say, what its product reveals, and what its security posture proves. No interviews, no questionnaires, no insider access for the public score. Only publicly accessible evidence counts.
